Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Automobiles & Parts and Support Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 6.04% or 7.40 points to trade at 129.85 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) added 4.49% or 88.50 points to end at 2061.00 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) was up 4.45% or 280.00 points to 6570.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL), which lost 8.03% or 29.70 points to trade at 340.00 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 4.64% or 154.50 points to end at 3176.50 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) shed 3.43% or 7.40 points to 208.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1458 to 588 and 307 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.15% or 1.90 to $1232.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.24% or 0.17 to hit $71.95 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.36 to trade at $81.14 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.39% to 1.3204, while EUR/GBP fell 0.30% to 0.8777.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 94.68.
