Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 7.58% or 3.04 points to trade at 43.16 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 6.66% or 7.40 points to end at 118.55 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 6.64% or 79.0 points to 1269.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rosneft (LON:ROSNq), which lost 5.16% or 0.29 points to trade at 5.25 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) declined 2.28% or 11.80 points to end at 504.80 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) shed 2.06% or 23.00 points to 1091.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1156 to 1054 and 151 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.08% or 1.45 to $1738.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.30% or 0.11 to hit $36.45 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.40 to trade at $38.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.85% to 1.2492, while EUR/GBP rose 0.35% to 0.8993.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.57% at 97.295.
