Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Engineering and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which rose 2.83% or 15.30 points to trade at 555.00 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 2.42% or 26.50 points to end at 1121.50 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 2.12% or 7.20 points to 346.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which lost 3.01% or 6.60 points to trade at 212.40 in late trade. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 3.01% or 131.0 points to end at 4225.0 and Informa PLC (LON:INF) shed 2.82% or 21.00 points to 723.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1504 to 700 and 163 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.38% or 6.20 to $1643.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.36% or 0.68 to hit $49.22 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.77% or 0.96 to trade at $53.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.78% to 1.2903, while EUR/GBP rose 0.80% to 0.8430.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 99.108.
