Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Automobiles & Parts and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were ConvaTec Group PLC (LON:CTEC), which rose 6.10% or 15.40 points to trade at 267.80 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 4.79% or 6.80 points to end at 148.65 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 3.73% or 63.60 points to 1,767.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 3.03% or 57.50 points to trade at 1,841.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.92% or 14.40 points to end at 479.30 and Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG) shed 2.52% or 84.00 points to 3,254.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1103 to 684 and 659 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.67% or 14.45 to $2,156.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.19% or 1.71 to hit $79.86 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.66% or 1.36 to trade at $83.40 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.41% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.10% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.54% at 103.19.
