Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Travel & Leisure and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 3.84% or 8.20 points to trade at 221.80 at the close. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) added 3.19% or 49.00 points to end at 1584.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was up 2.78% or 84.0 points to 3108.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which lost 3.12% or 3.68 points to trade at 114.10 in late trade. Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) declined 2.14% or 16.20 points to end at 740.20 and NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) shed 1.78% or 0.14 points to 7.82.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1093 to 871 and 472 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.31% or 5.55 to $1789.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.24% or 0.19 to hit $78.20 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.06 to trade at $82.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.02% to 1.3322, while EUR/GBP rose 0.20% to 0.8414.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 96.755.
