Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Equity Investment Instruments, Construction & Materials and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 20.16% or 148.6 points to trade at 885.8 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 18.30% or 92.80 points to end at 600.00 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) was up 15.45% or 368.5 points to 2754.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA), which lost 11.77% or 50.30 points to trade at 377.20 in late trade. Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) declined 11.39% or 54.10 points to end at 420.90 and Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) shed 8.02% or 205.0 points to 2350.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1624 to 596 and 123 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.44% or 6.45 to $1485.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 4.32% or 1.12 to hit $24.79 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.84% or 0.24 to trade at $28.71 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.21% to 1.1624, while EUR/GBP fell 1.48% to 0.9167.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 103.275.
