Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 2.85% or 4.25 points to trade at 153.50 at the close. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) added 2.82% or 24.80 points to end at 904.80 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 2.50% or 36.00 points to 1474.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 5.17% or 258.00 points to trade at 4735.00 in late trade. DCC plc (LON:DCC) declined 4.24% or 310.0 points to end at 7000.0 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.92% or 24.20 points to 805.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1116 to 964 and 340 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.91% or 10.90 to $1188.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.82% or 0.59 to hit $72.16 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.67% or 0.54 to trade at $81.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.46% to 1.3106, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8910.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.54% at 94.39.
