Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Tobacco and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which rose 3.21% or 84.00 points to trade at 2705.00 at the close. SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) added 3.14% or 42.00 points to end at 1380.00 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 2.71% or 5.65 points to 214.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (LON:BKGH), which lost 5.90% or 244.00 points to trade at 3893.00 in late trade. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 3.17% or 6.25 points to end at 190.75 and Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) shed 2.67% or 13.70 points to 498.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1113 to 888 and 323 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.23% or 2.90 to $1275.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.46% or 0.95 to hit $65.85 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.08 to trade at $75.00 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.20% to 1.3203, while EUR/GBP fell 0.22% to 0.8777.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 94.66.
