Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB), which rose 3.40% or 77.50 points to trade at 2358.00 at the close. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) added 2.53% or 14.20 points to end at 574.60 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 2.42% or 61.00 points to 2583.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which lost 3.19% or 5.24 points to trade at 159.22 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 3.16% or 10.20 points to end at 312.70 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) shed 2.45% or 76.0 points to 3024.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1122 to 856 and 455 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.23% or 4.05 to $1785.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.54% or 0.36 to hit $66.69 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.17 to trade at $69.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.78% to 1.3743, while EUR/GBP rose 0.29% to 0.8526.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 93.093.
