Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Industrial Metals & Mining and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (LON:BKGH), which rose 2.53% or 91.00 points to trade at 3685.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 2.22% or 20.80 points to end at 958.80 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 2.16% or 44.00 points to 2079.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which lost 3.23% or 275.00 points to trade at 8225.00 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 2.96% or 36.00 points to end at 1180.00 and Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) shed 2.78% or 18.00 points to 628.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1032 to 899 and 328 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.98% or 12.10 to $1227.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.39% or 0.26 to hit $66.81 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.18% or 0.13 to trade at $71.97 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.63% to 1.3152, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8867.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 94.70.
