Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Food & Drug Retailers and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which rose 3.47% or 11.40 points to trade at 340.00 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 2.62% or 15.50 points to end at 606.50 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) was up 2.57% or 6.10 points to 243.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 3.60% or 43.00 points to trade at 1150.00 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 2.20% or 29.00 points to end at 1287.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 1.61% or 78.00 points to 4760.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1004 to 909 and 422 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.15% or 1.94 to $1312.74 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.54% or 0.27 to hit $50.08 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.72% or 0.40 to trade at $55.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.17% to 1.3519, while EUR/GBP rose 0.07% to 0.8863.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 91.65.
