Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.32% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 3.30% or 6.30 points to trade at 197.35 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.17% or 54.00 points to end at 1757.40 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 3.16% or 10.95 points to 357.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which lost 6.27% or 455.00 points to trade at 6800.00 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 3.02% or 9.50 points to end at 305.00 and Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) shed 2.79% or 10.50 points to 365.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1225 to 771 and 293 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.05% or 0.60 to $1306.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.40% or 0.27 to hit $67.52 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.08% or 0.06 to trade at $73.07 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.14% to 1.3595, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8799.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 92.48.
