Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Oil & Gas Producers and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 2.44% or 23.00 points to trade at 965.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 2.06% or 33.50 points to end at 1658.50 and BP PLC (LON:BP) was up 1.98% or 9.20 points to 473.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (LON:BKGH), which lost 5.35% or 210.00 points to trade at 3713.00 in late trade. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) declined 2.27% or 12.00 points to end at 516.00 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) shed 1.97% or 6.90 points to 343.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1020 to 945 and 150 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.39% or 5.20 to $1312.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.68% or 1.03 to hit $62.22 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 0.90 to trade at $66.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.01% to 1.3935, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.8818.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 90.22.
