Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Electrical, Travel & Leisure and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were SSE PLC (LON:SSE), which rose 4.03% or 59.00 points to trade at 1525.00 at the close. Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) added 2.92% or 7.70 points to end at 271.50 and Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:ABDN) was up 2.90% or 8.30 points to 295.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.22% or 27.00 points to trade at 811.40 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 2.15% or 39.50 points to end at 1800.00 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) shed 1.48% or 44.0 points to 2938.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1229 to 994 and 216 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.04% or 0.65 to $1813.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.89% or 2.04 to hit $68.52 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.26% or 1.64 to trade at $70.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.3908, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8515.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 92.255.
