Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.28% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 2.95% or 24.60 points to trade at 859.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 2.44% or 49.00 points to end at 2058.50 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 2.39% or 109.50 points to 4696.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which lost 3.77% or 19.60 points to trade at 500.40 in late trade. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 2.50% or 2.70 points to end at 105.15 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) shed 1.84% or 1.76 points to 93.88.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1315 to 878 and 212 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.12% or 1.55 to $1330.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.23% or 0.12 to hit $53.38 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $62.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.31% to 1.2722, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.8904.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 96.680.
