Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs, Oil & Gas Producers and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK), which rose 6.01% or 310.0 points to trade at 5470.0 at the close. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) added 2.07% or 31.50 points to end at 1550.50 and Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) was up 1.88% or 25.50 points to 1384.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV), which lost 3.87% or 130.0 points to trade at 3229.0 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.85% or 26.40 points to end at 901.40 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) shed 2.15% or 47.0 points to 2135.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1119 to 901 and 455 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.18% or 3.15 to $1786.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.28% or 0.22 to hit $78.28 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.35% or 0.29 to trade at $82.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.36% to 1.3326, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8397.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.41% at 96.890.
