Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Mobile Telecommunications and Equity Investment Instruments sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which rose 2.64% or 2.47 points to trade at 96.16 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 2.56% or 10.50 points to end at 420.50 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 2.52% or 64.00 points to 2,607.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY), which lost 3.57% or 1.70 points to trade at 45.98 in late trade. Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) declined 2.94% or 204.00 points to end at 6,734.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 2.01% or 3.05 points to 149.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 905 to 870 and 468 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.52% or 10.45 to $2,033.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 4.14% or 2.97 to hit $68.69 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 3.82% or 2.88 to trade at $72.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.72% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.26% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 101.20.
