Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which rose 2.73% or 7.30 points to trade at 275.00 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 2.64% or 38.50 points to end at 1498.00 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) was up 2.44% or 10.80 points to 453.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which lost 5.02% or 81.00 points to trade at 1533.50 in late trade. DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) declined 4.98% or 17.50 points to end at 334.20 and Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG) shed 3.55% or 90.00 points to 2444.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1207 to 899 and 209 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.29% or 4.35 to $1498.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.11% or 0.06 to hit $53.30 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.06 to trade at $59.36 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.17% to 1.2852, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.8656.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 97.347.
