Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 4.05% or 9.75 points to trade at 250.20 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 2.98% or 4.94 points to end at 170.70 and Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) was up 2.75% or 28.00 points to 1048.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 4.01% or 39.20 points to trade at 938.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 3.89% or 29.40 points to end at 727.20 and Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) shed 3.68% or 48.50 points to 1268.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1059 to 1006 and 291 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.11% or 1.40 to $1232.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.66% or 1.10 to hit $67.53 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.78 to trade at $77.22 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.67% to 1.2896, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8834.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 96.13.
