Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Electrical, Software & Computer Services and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were SSE PLC (LON:SSE), which rose 9.14% or 116.00 points to trade at 1385.00 at the close. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) added 4.14% or 175.0 points to end at 4397.0 and Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) was up 2.97% or 9.20 points to 319.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 5.90% or 80.0 points to trade at 1275.0 in late trade. Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) declined 4.38% or 10.20 points to end at 222.80 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 3.46% or 9.70 points to 270.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1236 to 929 and 158 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.03% or 0.50 to $1736.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.65% or 0.25 to hit $38.13 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.44% or 0.18 to trade at $40.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.23% to 1.2545, while EUR/GBP rose 0.04% to 0.8955.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 97.142.
