Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Forestry & Paper and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which rose 3.35% or 15.90 points to trade at 491.00 at the close. Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) added 2.42% or 16.20 points to end at 686.40 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.78% or 16.60 points to 946.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 3.57% or 57.50 points to trade at 1554.50 in late trade. Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) declined 2.99% or 109.00 points to end at 3533.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 1.80% or 35.00 points to 1912.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1061 to 952 and 362 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.19% or 2.30 to $1202.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.19% or 2.10 to hit $67.94 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.84% or 2.06 to trade at $74.69 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.11% to 1.2910, while EUR/GBP rose 0.14% to 0.8980.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 95.04.
