Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electrical, Chemicals and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.08% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Experian PLC (LON:EXPN), which rose 3.84% or 103.0 points to trade at 2785.0 at the close. DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) added 3.60% or 12.54 points to end at 361.14 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) was up 3.10% or 72.0 points to 2397.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 4.81% or 43.15 points to trade at 854.05 in late trade. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) declined 3.80% or 188.0 points to end at 4765.0 and Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) shed 3.56% or 16.00 points to 433.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1174 to 1082 and 92 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.30% or 5.60 to $1871.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $45.76 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.35% or 0.17 to trade at $48.96 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.3354, while EUR/GBP rose 0.25% to 0.9071.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 90.907.
