Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil & Gas Producers and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 4.05% or 4.50 points to trade at 115.60 at the close. BP PLC (LON:BP) added 2.65% or 7.85 points to end at 304.50 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) was up 2.52% or 35.50 points to 1442.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT), which lost 6.88% or 66.00 points to trade at 893.00 in late trade. Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) declined 6.81% or 21.70 points to end at 296.90 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 5.54% or 20.90 points to 356.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1419 to 724 and 143 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.11% or 2.05 to $1812.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.17% or 0.07 to hit $40.17 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.21% or 0.09 to trade at $42.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.02% to 1.2550, while EUR/GBP rose 0.62% to 0.9085.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 96.175.
