Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Electrical and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 2.94% or 1.72 points to trade at 60.22 at the close. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) added 2.38% or 2.60 points to end at 112.00 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 2.32% or 42.5 points to 1872.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 6.69% or 16.30 points to trade at 227.40 in late trade. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 4.87% or 8.06 points to end at 157.50 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 3.59% or 22.00 points to 591.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1034 to 965 and 434 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.80% or 14.25 to $1784.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.79% or 0.65 to hit $83.09 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.40 to trade at $85.48 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.18% to 1.3820, while EUR/GBP fell 0.04% to 0.8427.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 93.627.
