Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Tobacco, Beverage and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.04% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 4.26% or 116.0 points to trade at 2837.0 at the close. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) added 3.20% or 46.88 points to end at 1513.88 and Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq) was up 2.58% or 0.39 points to 15.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH), which lost 7.31% or 348.4 points to trade at 4415.6 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 5.68% or 163.0 points to end at 2705.0 and DCC plc (LON:DCC) shed 5.27% or 304.0 points to 5462.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1276 to 1047 and 69 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.57% or 28.82 to $1868.82 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.50% or 0.23 to hit $46.03 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.43% or 0.21 to trade at $49.04 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.73% to 1.3338, while EUR/GBP rose 0.86% to 0.9100.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 90.757.
