Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Automobiles & Parts and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.03% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 2.86% or 39.00 points to trade at 1403.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 2.36% or 33.00 points to end at 1430.00 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 2.07% or 43.00 points to 2119.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which lost 6.08% or 11.60 points to trade at 179.30 in late trade. Provident Financial (LON:PFG) declined 5.97% or 54.00 points to end at 850.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) shed 3.21% or 6.10 points to 183.95.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 996 to 993 and 410 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.17% or 2.12 to $1275.78 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.16% or 0.08 to hit $50.34 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.08 to trade at $55.92 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.31% to 1.3276, while EUR/GBP fell 0.14% to 0.8861.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 93.29.
