Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Electrical and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.03% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN), which rose 2.14% or 218.00 points to trade at 10,390.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 1.72% or 26.50 points to end at 1,564.50 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) was up 1.72% or 7.10 points to 419.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB), which lost 6.26% or 37.60 points to trade at 562.80 in late trade. Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) declined 4.71% or 28.00 points to end at 566.80 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 3.21% or 20.00 points to 602.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 826 to 767 and 508 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.22% or 4.45 to $1,997.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.41% or 0.97 to hit $69.58 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.45% or 1.06 to trade at $74.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.27% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 103.42.
