Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Tobacco and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 2.74% or 37.50 points to trade at 1407.50 at the close. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) added 2.11% or 39.50 points to end at 1911.50 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 1.99% or 3.82 points to 195.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC), which lost 15.86% or 237.00 points to trade at 1257.50 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 4.59% or 44.60 points to end at 927.40 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) shed 2.55% or 15.80 points to 602.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1251 to 910 and 193 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.90% or 14.15 to $1560.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 5.09% or 3.19 to hit $59.51 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 4.38% or 2.99 to trade at $65.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.17% to 1.3100, while EUR/GBP fell 0.14% to 0.8483.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 96.982.
