Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electrical, Industrial Transportation and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 6.00% or 37.20 points to trade at 656.80 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 4.20% or 32.80 points to end at 814.00 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) was up 3.81% or 61.50 points to 1,677.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 4.21% or 18.75 points to trade at 426.35 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 3.93% or 115.50 points to end at 2,821.50 and Abrdn PLC (LON:ABDN) shed 3.35% or 5.35 points to 154.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 922 to 873 and 470 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.40% or 7.30 to $1,800.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.48% or 2.62 to hit $108.38 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.32% or 2.53 to trade at $111.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.08% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.30% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.67% at 105.16.
