Investing.com – Taiwan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the , Plastic and Electricity sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted fell 0.93% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Genmont Biotec (TW:3164), which rose 9.90% or 1.95 points to trade at 21.65 at the close. Gamma Optical (TW:3557) added 9.86% or 0.560 points to end at 6.240 and Yu Foung Intl (TW:1438) was up 8.47% or 0.320 points to 4.100 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Transasia (TW:6702), which lost 8.99% or 0.08 points to trade at 0.81 in late trade. Genius (TW:3406) declined 5.05% or 5.50 points to end at 103.50 and Ace Pillar (TW:8374) shed 4.79% or 0.95 points to 18.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 635 to 146 and 90 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.08% or 0.04 to $52.45 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $54.45 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.15% or 1.65 to trade at $1131.55 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was up 0.24% to 32.092, while TWD/CNY rose 0.18% to 0.2176.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 102.98.
