Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electricity, Cement and Cement & Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted added 0.15% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Li Peng Ent. (TW:1447), which rose 9.92% or 0.72 points to trade at 7.98 at the close. Jye Tai Precision Industrial Co Ltd (TW:6165) added 9.86% or 1.45 points to end at 16.15 and Basso Indu (TW:1527) was up 9.41% or 8.60 points to 100.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sunko Ink (TW:1721), which lost 6.52% or 1.05 points to trade at 15.05 in late trade. Biostar (TW:2399) declined 6.28% or 0.62 points to end at 9.25 and Yoko Tech (TW:6131) shed 6.20% or 0.75 points to 11.35.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 399 to 342 and 114 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.10% or 0.04 to $41.88 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.16% or 0.07 to hit $43.84 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.95% or 12.65 to trade at $1347.15 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.37% to 31.946, while TWD/CNY rose 0.10% to 0.2096.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 96.52.
