Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Glass, Optoelectronic and Other Electronic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted added 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Tidehold Development Co Ltd (TW:9902), which rose 10.00% or 1.00 points to trade at 11.00 at the close. Uniflex Technology Inc (TW:3321) added 9.97% or 1.70 points to end at 18.75 and Jih Lin Technology Co Ltd (TW:5285) was up 9.96% or 8.30 points to 91.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sumagh High Tech Corp (TW:1475), which lost 9.97% or 5.90 points to trade at 53.30 in late trade. Lily Textile Co Ltd (TW:1443) declined 5.88% or 0.30 points to end at 4.80 and Evertex Fabrinology Ltd (TW:1470) shed 4.74% or 0.90 points to 18.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 551 to 199 and 135 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.22% or 0.13 to $59.77 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.26% or 0.17 to hit $66.16 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.19% or 2.40 to trade at $1293.80 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.44% to 29.805, while TWD/CNY rose 0.14% to 0.2190.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 92.47.
