Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Hotels, Auto and Trading & Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted gained 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were AOPEN Inc (TW:3046), which rose 10.00% or 1.65 points to trade at 18.15 at the close. Mospec Semiconductor Corp (TW:2434) added 10.00% or 1.00 points to end at 11.00 and Century Iron And Steel Industrial Co Ltd (TW:9958) was up 9.95% or 3.95 points to 43.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Realtek Semiconductor Corp (TW:2379), which lost 4.12% or 5.00 points to trade at 116.50 in late trade. Asia Optical Co Inc (TW:3019) declined 4.07% or 5.00 points to end at 118.00 and Daxin Materials Corp (TW:5234) shed 4.05% or 3.40 points to 80.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 448 to 356 and 108 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was down 0.74% or 0.48 to $64.02 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.61% or 0.42 to hit $68.10 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.52% or 6.90 to trade at $1342.30 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.38% to 29.131, while TWD/CNY fell 0.05% to 0.2160.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 88.79.
