Investing.com – Spain equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Building & Construction, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Telecoms & IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 declined 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the IBEX 35 were Grifols SA (MC:GRLS), which rose 3.83% or 0.730 points to trade at 19.800 at the close. Melia Hotels (MC:MEL) added 3.69% or 0.400 points to end at 11.240 and B. Sabadell (MC:SABE) was up 2.43% or 0.032 points to 1.348 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mapfre (MC:MAP), which lost 2.07% or 0.058 points to trade at 2.746 in late trade. Enagas (MC:ENAG) declined 1.75% or 0.420 points to end at 23.590 and Arcel. Mittal (MC:MTS) shed 1.63% or 0.126 points to 7.608.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 94 to 66 and 20 ended unchanged on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 1.13% or 13.65 to $1198.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.20% or 0.10 to hit $51.18 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.24% or 0.13 to trade at $54.05 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.14% to 1.0615, while EUR/GBP fell 0.38% to 0.8638.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 101.55.
