South Harz Potash Ltd (ASX:SHP) has wrapped up the initial consultation and hearing process for its Ohmgebirge Potash Development in Thuringia, Germany.
Conducted on September 16, the hearing marked the conclusion of the public consultation period led by the Thüringer Landesverwaltungsamt (TLVwA).
No significant concerns
Some 15 public institutions and interest groups had submitted comments before the hearing.
Importantly, no significant objections or concerns regarding the proposed development were raised either in the submitted comments or during the hearing.
Managing director and CEO Luis da Silva said: “We are very pleased with the positive outcomes from the initial phase of permitting consultation on Ohmgebirge.
“We believe they are a strong indication of how our well-documented and publicised commitment to world-class environmental practices in the development and operation of Ohmgebirge has provided significant preliminary comfort to a broad range of stakeholders.
“It is also noteworthy that this commitment extensively covers key areas of historic environmental focus in the region, including non-discharge water handling/balance and zero permanent surface stockpiles.”
All focus areas to be addressed
South Harz confirmed that all focus areas will be addressed in the pending full Spatial Planning Application, with further elaboration in the General Operations Plan Application, due after the Ohmgebirge Definitive Feasibility Study.
South Harz continues its preparation for the full Spatial Planning Application for Ohmgebirge, slated for submission early in the fourth quarter of 2023.
As per regulatory guidelines, a decision from TLVwA is expected within six months following the application.
Once it garners approval, the company will complete the Environmental Impact Assessment in the first quarter of 2024 and then apply for a General Operating Permit.
The permit process is overseen by South Harz regional director Dr Babette Winter and environmental consultancy ERM.
