Investing.com – Netherlands equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Technology and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX lost 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG), which rose 0.95% or 0.700 points to trade at 74.080 at the close. Heineken (AS:HEIN) added 0.92% or 0.80 points to end at 87.67 and Koninklijke KPN NV (AS:KPN) was up 0.90% or 0.027 points to 3.033 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which lost 3.28% or 0.655 points to trade at 19.305 in late trade. SBM Offshore NV (AS:SBMO) declined 3.08% or 0.43 points to end at 13.71 and ASML Holding NV (AS:ASML) shed 1.30% or 1.55 points to 117.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 65 to 65 and 9 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 1.58% to 12.07.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 2.48% or 1.23 to $48.43 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 2.51% or 1.31 to hit $50.93 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.45% or 5.62 to trade at $1267.72 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was up 0.38% to 1.1229, while EUR/GBP rose 0.14% to 0.8712.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 96.97.
