MELBOURNE, April 4 (Reuters) - Macquarie's head of Metals and Mining Sebastian Barrack will be leaving the Australian bank after more than two decades to join hedge fund Citadel, a source familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.
Citadel released a statement dated April 3 from its Chicago headquarters announcing the hiring of Barrack.
Barrack has worked for Macquarie since 1996, according to his LinkedIn (NYSE:LNKD) profile, most recently as Head of Metals, Mining, and Agriculture, based in Sydney. He will finish at Macquarie at the end of the week, the source said.
Citadel, founded by Kenneth Griffin, invests some $26 billion in assets and saw its flagship Wellington fund end 2016 with a roughly 5 percent gain, having recovered from losses at the start of the year. Since its launch in 1990, the fund has delivered an average return of 19 percent a year.
