Investing.com -- Stocks were rising as investors awaited the outcome of the midterm elections, and the answer to which party will control Congress. Here are the midday movers for Nov. 7:
Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) stock rose 4% after the drug store chain announced plans to buy Summit Health for about $9 billion, in a bid to grow its VillageMD primary care services by adding Summit's CityMD urgent care centers.
BioNTech SE (NASDAQ:BNTX) stock rose 2.4% after it beat expectations for earnings and revenue and raised the lower end of its full-year outlook for revenue from sales of its Covid-19 vaccine, to $16 billion from $13 billion.
Viatris Inc (NASDAQ:VTRS) stock rose 16% after the company formed by the merger of Mylan and Upjohn announced two deals to expand its eyecare business. It fell short of estimates for revenue in the recent quarter.
Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) shares rose 4.3% after a report that the social media platform is getting ready to announce the first large-scale layoffs in its nearly two-decade history.
Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock was down 0.7% after it said Covid-19 restrictions in China were interfering with the production of its iPhones, as the holiday shopping season is under full swing.
