Legacy Minerals Ltd (ASX:LGM) has completed a petrographic analysis of the mineral content and textural relationships within rocks at the Bauloora gold-silver low-sulphidation epithermal project, indicating the presence of widespread sinter-related lithology (rock layering) over the 27-square-kilometre epithermal vein field in the Lachlan Fold Belt of NSW.
Sinter is a type of high-silica sedimentary rock, generally deposited at or near the surface by hot water at the vents of hot springs and geysers.
Legacy has interpreted the presence of sinter over a large 5.6-kilometre area to strongly support the presence of a large epithermal gold system footprint, preserved at depth on the project tenure.
"Pleased with outcome"
“Following on from our successful use of satellite hyperspectral data at Bauloora, and our drive to unpack the scale and potential of this system, we are extremely pleased with the outcome of the petrographic examination,” Legacy Minerals managing director Christopher Byrne said.
“This is the first-time petrography has been done on these prospects and the results, along with the high-grade gold found in previous rock chip sampling, have strongly reinforced our belief that we are sitting on a large, preserved epithermal gold system.”
The company’s assumptions are further reinforced by geochemistry samples from the Breccia Sinter Prospect, which returned some of the highest gold results at the project to date:
- 32.2 g/t gold, 196 g/t silver and 120 parts per million (ppm) antimony;
- 17.75 g/t gold, 8.34 g/t silver and 28 ppm antimony; and
- 16.25 g/t gold, 162 g/t silver and 114 ppm antimony.
“This sinter preservation is a key part in the potential size of the Bauloora Project with similar sinter geology seen at many world-class epithermal gold deposits,” Byrne continued.
“As evidenced by the broad epithermal minerology and mapped vein scale, the epithermal system is extensive.
“For Legacy Minerals our next steps are to incorporate this new information into our geological understanding with a view to refining priorities across our high conviction drill targets.”
Bauloora Project targets and sinter locations.
The Bauloora Project is located in the Central Lachlan Fold Belt NSW, which is host to world-class copper-gold orebodies including the Cadia-Ridgeway, Northparkes and Cowal mines.
It is in a zone which is bounded to the west by the Gilmore Fault Zone and to the east by the Cootamundra Fault.
