Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Glass, Automobiles & Parts and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 5.36% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Comsys Holdings Corp. (T:1721), which fell 0.60% or 11.0 points to trade at 1830.0 at the close. Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503) fell 1.08% or 16.2 points to end at 1478.0 and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531) was down 2.01% or 9.7 points to 472.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976), which lost 12.00% or 129.0 points to trade at 946.0 in late trade. Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) declined 10.57% or 25.0 points to end at 211.5 and Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6767) shed 9.71% or 57.0 points to 530.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 3110 to 111 and 127 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 21.97% to 27.65 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 1.96% or 0.88 to $44.10 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 1.82% or 0.84 to hit $45.20 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 3.75% or 47.85 to trade at $1322.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 2.76% to 102.27, while EUR/JPY fell 1.10% to 114.70.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.36% at 96.55.
