Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Real Estate and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (T:4005), which rose 3.22% or 19.5 points to trade at 624.5 at the close. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (T:8035) added 2.58% or 395.0 points to end at 15690.0 and Amada Co., Ltd. (T:6113) was up 2.46% or 33.0 points to 1374.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (T:8750), which lost 3.96% or 76.5 points to trade at 1856.8 in late trade. Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) declined 3.81% or 8.0 points to end at 202.0 and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506) shed 3.63% or 66.0 points to 1751.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1927 to 1128 and 311 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.90% to 14.92.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.55% or 0.27 to $48.39 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.39% or 0.20 to hit $51.45 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.58% or 7.13 to trade at $1243.53 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.58% to 112.45, while EUR/JPY fell 0.50% to 124.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 97.95.
