Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Trading and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 2.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd. (TYO:5901), which rose 2.28% or 54.50 points to trade at 2,444.50 at the close. IHI Corp. (TYO:7013) added 1.96% or 67.00 points to end at 3,486.00 and Kuraray Co., Ltd. (TYO:3405) was up 1.71% or 27.00 points to 1,605.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which lost 9.99% or 1,965.00 points to trade at 17,695.00 in late trade. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) declined 5.93% or 1,290.00 points to end at 20,460.00 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) shed 3.44% or 500.00 points to 14,020.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2001 to 1569 and 284 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.49% to 18.39.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.66% or 0.52 to $79.57 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.65% or 0.54 to hit $83.90 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.22% or 4.35 to trade at $1,942.75 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.07% to 145.98, while EUR/JPY fell 0.11% to 157.49.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 104.10.
