Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Fishery and Food sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taisei Corp. (TYO:1801), which rose 2.29% or 117.00 points to trade at 5,233.00 at the close. Subaru Corp (TYO:7270) added 2.01% or 51.50 points to end at 2,609.50 and JFE Holdings, Inc. (TYO:5411) was up 1.75% or 36.00 points to 2,089.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which lost 4.18% or 915.00 points to trade at 20,990.00 in late trade. Terumo Corp. (TYO:4543) declined 3.01% or 134.00 points to end at 4,321.00 and Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506) shed 2.90% or 185.00 points to 6,190.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2224 to 1350 and 272 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.70% to 19.82.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.19% or 0.14 to $75.43 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.18% or 0.14 to hit $79.60 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.14% or 2.75 to trade at $1,983.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.20% to 139.38, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 156.34.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 99.87.
