Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Communication, Glass and Machinery sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 3.08% or 100.0 points to trade at 3350.0 at the close. Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) added 2.50% or 40.0 points to end at 1640.0 and Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (T:2502) was up 2.26% or 105.0 points to 4742.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Trend Micro Inc. (T:4704), which lost 8.93% or 500.0 points to trade at 5100.0 in late trade. Dentsu Inc. (T:4324) declined 7.71% or 395.0 points to end at 4725.0 and Kubota Corp. (T:6326) shed 7.04% or 116.5 points to 1538.5.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2275 to 1222 and 203 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.15% to 17.78.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.11% or 0.06 to $54.47 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.28% or 0.18 to hit $64.75 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.31% or 4.05 to trade at $1317.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.14% to 110.31, while EUR/JPY fell 0.34% to 124.33.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 96.993.
