Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Insurance, Paper & Pulp and Rubber sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Marubeni Corp. (TYO:8002), which rose 4.09% or 103.50 points to trade at 2,635.00 at the close. Sompo Holdings Inc (TYO:8630) added 4.08% or 258.00 points to end at 6,578.00 and Chiba Bank Ltd (TYO:8331) was up 3.80% or 32.80 points to 895.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which lost 6.86% or 1,365.00 points to trade at 18,530.00 in late trade. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) declined 4.57% or 940.00 points to end at 19,620.00 and Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911) shed 4.12% or 290.00 points to 6,746.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2145 to 1489 and 214 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.14% to 20.09.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.39% or 0.28 to $72.25 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.41% or 0.32 to hit $76.80 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.30% or 5.75 to trade at $1,939.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.06% to 141.80, while EUR/JPY fell 0.04% to 155.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 101.71.
