Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Chemical, Transport and Electrical/Machinery sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501), which rose 5.27% or 29.00 points to trade at 579.00 at the close. SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:9412) added 3.64% or 19.00 points to end at 541.00 and Japan Steel Works Ltd (TYO:5631) was up 3.03% or 90.00 points to 3,065.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5214), which lost 4.31% or 119.00 points to trade at 2,640.00 in late trade. AGC Inc (TYO:5201) declined 4.17% or 210.00 points to end at 4,830.00 and Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (TYO:9147) shed 3.77% or 290.00 points to 7,410.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1873 to 1676 and 220 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.31% to 21.75.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.36% or 0.40 to $111.36 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.43% or 0.49 to hit $113.31 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.16% or 3.00 to trade at $1,818.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 136.15, while EUR/JPY fell 0.16% to 142.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 104.40.
