Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Insurance, Real Estate and Precision Instruments sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099), which rose 5.55% or 65.00 points to trade at 1,236.00 at the close. JGC Corp. (TYO:1963) added 4.85% or 87.00 points to end at 1,880.00 and Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233) was up 4.32% or 70.00 points to 1,690.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (TYO:5713), which lost 5.44% or 259.00 points to trade at 4,506.00 in late trade. Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) declined 3.14% or 290.00 points to end at 8,940.00 and Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) shed 2.95% or 1,370.00 points to 45,030.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2359 to 1148 and 282 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.54% to 19.16.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.75% or 0.64 to $84.95 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.45% or 0.42 to hit $92.44 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.28% or 4.95 to trade at $1,770.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.06% to 139.46, while EUR/JPY fell 0.10% to 144.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 106.21.
