Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Power and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735), which rose 5.35% or 580.00 points to trade at 11,430.00 at the close. Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531) added 4.31% or 110.00 points to end at 2,660.00 and Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) was up 3.70% or 430.00 points to 12,050.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (TYO:7201), which lost 3.38% or 16.90 points to trade at 483.30 in late trade. Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) declined 3.20% or 22.00 points to end at 665.00 and Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) shed 2.41% or 29.00 points to 1,175.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2075 to 1434 and 326 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.37% to 16.04 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.59% or 0.46 to $76.91 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 0.55% or 0.45 to hit $80.65 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 1.15% or 23.30 to trade at $1,995.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 134.07, while EUR/JPY fell 0.27% to 146.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 101.72.
