Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202), which rose 3.24% or 21.00 points to trade at 669.00 at the close. Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (TYO:8253) added 2.94% or 53.00 points to end at 1,856.00 and Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (TYO:8766) was up 2.85% or 75.00 points to 2,707.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Olympus Corp. (TYO:7733), which lost 2.64% or 66.50 points to trade at 2,451.00 in late trade. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) declined 2.30% or 100.00 points to end at 4,240.00 and TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332) shed 1.93% or 90.00 points to 4,575.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2047 to 1442 and 344 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.59% to 16.10 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.64% or 0.52 to $80.38 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 0.65% or 0.55 to hit $84.22 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.65% or 13.15 to trade at $2,006.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.40% to 134.63, while EUR/JPY rose 0.37% to 147.66.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 101.50.
