Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Electrical/Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (TYO:5301), which rose 4.59% or 49.00 points to trade at 1,116.00 at the close. Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523) added 4.06% or 349.00 points to end at 8,948.00 and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531) was up 3.97% or 96.00 points to 2,515.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755), which lost 5.55% or 39.00 points to trade at 664.00 in late trade. Softbank Group Corp. (TYO:9984) declined 3.86% or 244.00 points to end at 6,075.00 and Recruit Holdings Co Ltd (TYO:6098) shed 3.19% or 146.00 points to 4,437.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1856 to 1609 and 323 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.44% to 18.50 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.11% or 0.09 to $81.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.18% or 0.16 to hit $89.62 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.16% or 2.80 to trade at $1,765.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.17% to 139.93, while EUR/JPY fell 0.07% to 145.13.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 106.49.
